The Romans referred to Jaba' by Gabata.

Jaba' had an elementary school for boys, which was founded by the Ottomans in 1885.

According to the Palestinian historian Walid Khalidi, the village remaining structures on the village land are:
"Piles of stone rubble can be seen on the site. A shrine is still standing on an elevated part of it. Pine forests grow over the land in the vicinity."
