My grandfather lived and died in Qisarya, my father Ahmad Bushnaq was born and lived around 7 years in Qisarya, but had to leave to Haifa to continue his education, grew up there ,studied in the Arab College in Jerusalem 1936 -1939,taught in Tarshee7a,Kofur Kanna,Haifa ,... married in Haifa and lived in Balad El Sheikh till 1947 when he fled to Hebron after the UN Resolution partitioning Palestine.I would very much share with all generations some pictures related to that time and those places.

Our families (Bushnaq) came from Bosnia to Qisaria in 1884 via Turkey and Syria. They had large areas of agricultural land nearby in Susafa and Khirbet esh sharkas and other areas. They built the stone houses with red roofs in Qisariya. Some left before 1948 when a railway was built which bypassed the caesarea port, ruining their trade. Others stayed behind and were ethnically cleansed in 1948.
The town mosque is today a restaurant and bar and the toilets are under the minaret.

I come from this town, my father was born there and they lived there and we will never forget our roots.

I would love to know more about my fathers family life in Caesarea before they lift to Haifa and why the Bushnaqs fled Caesarea long before 1948.

I was raised in Caesarea. I am shocked by these pictures and horrified that there was once an Arab village here. People in Caesarea do not know of this history. I would like to discuss the village that once existed with anyone who is interested, and to find out what life there was like.

I do not think though that the location of the village is the same as the location of modern Caesarea. Rather, I think that the village stood where the current kibbutz of Sdot Yam stands.

Does anyone know about this?

Best wishes,

Yaniv
